SACAR's allows the use of an FSTD (approved for the purpuse) to be used to maintain your FSTD Recency, being two instrument approaches in the last 90 days. Our FSTD is approved for the recency maintenance of both Multi-Engine or Single Engine.

As a safety consideration, the FSTD can also be used to familarise yourself with an intended approach (anywhere in the world) before your actual flight in the aircraft, including RNAV appraches and/or DME ARC Approaches.

For your recency sessions, you may elect to use an instructor or alternately you can book an IOS Operator if you do not require instruction and simply want to practice (See the important note below)

Important Note - Recency in terms of keeping your Instrument Rating current in the FSTD must be with an instructor:

CAR 61.01.8 (14) Time acquired as a pilot on an FSTD approved for the purpose, while under the supervision of an appropriately qualified instructor, may be credited towards—

(a) required flight time experience for the issue of a pilot licence or rating, but only to the extent specified in each case in these regulations;

(bthe instrument flight time experience required in terms of this Part and of Parts 91, 121, 127 or 135 for keeping the instrument rating current; and

(c) the revalidation of the instrument rating.
